The short answer
Tree work is priced per job, not per hour, because every tree is different. As a rough UK guide, pruning a small garden tree might cost a few hundred pounds, while removing a large mature tree near a house can run into the low thousands.
These are general national ranges only. We price every job after a free site visit.
What affects the price
Size: taller trees with wider crowns take longer and produce more waste.
Access and surroundings: trees near houses, greenhouses, cables or roads need rigging and more time.
Method: a tree that can be felled in one go is quicker than one that must be dismantled in sections.
Waste: chipping and removing branches and timber is a big part of the cost. Keeping the logs can reduce it.
Stumps: stump grinding is usually priced on top.
Watch out for very cheap quotes
Tree work is dangerous. Always check a tree surgeon has public liability insurance, chainsaw qualifications and a waste carrier licence. Fly-tipped waste from an unlicensed contractor can come back to you as the householder.
